I call sunny Arizona my home. Dry. Hot. Cold. Brown. Dusty. All words I used to describe the desert. I strived to make a desert painting, but longed for luscious green trees and flowers everywhere. I tried to make a cactus look painterly, and fit my vibe, but I felt like I failed. The desert southwest vibe was not vibing with me. This piece is so special to my heart because it is the first desert landscape painting that I genuinely love.
What changed? Most locals know that the desert has perfect weather 7 months of the year. I spent most of my winter outside with my littles. Gosh! Being around my boys, remind me of how to stay present and grounded where I am. Bloom where I am. They have only seen the beauty of the desert botanical gardens, the palm trees, the mountains in their short amount of years they have lived on planet Earth. They know nothing else, but what is right in front of them. When we stumble upon the hiking trails by our house, we experience a landscape of different shapes, animals, hues of purples, teals, greens, browns. When the sun hits the surface at a certain time of the day, you can see the desert change it’s color. It responds and is dependent to the sun and moon. Such a neutral palette of colors, and yet so vibrant.
